Frontend prototyping demo 26th Jan
What?
- Basic website, served locally (for now)
- HTML / CSS / vanilla JS (no libraries, dependencies, build step)
- Native web components / custom
HTML elements
Why?
10 reasons:
- Because designers should GAF about the context they're working in
- Cos screens suck to dev for in 2024 (and what about 2028?)
- Cos how do I know what’s possible if i’m not continually learning?
- Cos how can I collab with y’all effectively if i’m not on the field?
- Cos statics aren’t sufficient – transitions, animations, interactivity
- Cos it’ll allow me to sweat the details, and reduce (not remove!) edge-case back & forth
- Cos it forces me to think in terms of components, and encapsulation
- Cos i’m fast widdit – effort to date has been < one week
- Cos it’ll make my design better, and (hopefully) make your lives easier
- TL;DR: it’s about effective & collaborative handover – not fire & forget
How?
- Repo setup by Col
- Holla if you want access – hoping to suss serving on a URL
- Framework agnostic – but built with componentised framework implementation in mind
- Heavily leveraging
container queries (as opposed to media queries)
- How will you use it? However you want! Use it for reference, ignore it completely, copy & paste things, whatever works for you
- My intent is that this is where the final designs will be signed off (“source of truth”)
Demo
- Walkthrough in-browser
- Responsive considerations
- Review of structure / components / modules / templates
